  • autorenew Implementation (Status)

The project firstly focuses on increasing FSM emptying and transport services in Freetown, including an extension of these to hard-to reach areas. An assessment of hard to reach areas will be carried out, FSM equipment including 2 vacuum trucks, eVacs and Gulpers will be procured and made available through Service Level Agreements to private sector providers, who will also receive training on the use of the equipment. Private sector providers under the SLAs will receive business development services provided by GOAL and an external consultancy. Secondly, the project seeks to increase the volume of faecal sludge treated at Kingtom dumpsite, through designing and implementing a pilot treatment plant. GOAL will pilot the use of geobags as an interim solution until funding becomes available beyond the timeframe of the project for a permanent solution. A detailed process design and management plan for the liquid effluent treatment will be developed, and the plant will be constructed. Additionally, GOAL will undertake an assessment of sewage discharge at the Central Business District/Lumley beach. The outcomes of this assessment will be utilised to recommend next steps for a comprehensive feasibility study.
