International Medical Corps UK (IMC UK) remains a key partner and one of the few organizations recognized by the GBV sub-sector for providing comprehensive GBV response services in Borno. IMC UK’s GBV program interventions primarily focus on strengthening community protection and resilience systems and structures. Through funding from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 2018, IMC UK’s capacity to build and expand its services for IDPs, especially women and adolescent girls, created a community-based network of operations in nine communities with the establishment of Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) and prevention and awareness-remaining activities. To prevent duplication of interventions, the GBV sub-sector and partners providing GBV services in five of the nine affected communities, have selected IMC UK as the lead INGO providing comprehensive GBV services in the targeted communities. The initial funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands concluded in July 2020, reducing IMC UK’s ability to provide services to roughly half of the previously targeted beneficiaries (160,000 out of approximately 290,000). The funding requested under this grant will enable IMC UK to reach an additional 130,000 beneficiaries in 5 IDP camps and host communities that faced gaps in key GBV prevention and response services with the conclusion of our previous grant. In additional to comprehensive GBV services, with an increased focus on Human Rights, IMC UK proposes to increase sustainability and the capacity of a national community-based organization (CBO) through the identification of a local partner to promote ownership and the increased potential of expanding key interventions including Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) activities, the Engaging Men through Accountable Practices (EMAP) approach and the Economic and Social Empowerment (EA$E) of women and adolescent girls, interventions.
