Improving the management of ambulance fleet to support the Ebola response in Western Area

Fleet management of 16 to 30 ambulances which are under the responsibility of the Western Area EVD Response Center (WAERC) (16 in constant use + 14 added during the 2 weeks surge). This includes: fuelling, decontamination, washing, maintenance and repair, tracking. Logistical support to operations including: securing and managing the depot for the ambulances, transport and storage of personal protective equipment (PPE), chlorine and sprayer equipment, provision of water for car washing and for decontamination activities, provision of diesel for incinerator and log base generator, etc. Supply of material to ambulance crews, house decontamination crews and ambulance cleaners. Follow up of presence, of refresh training needed, and payment of hazard pay for 16 to 30 ambulance crews (1 driver/1 nurse), 16 to 30 sprayers for house decontamination and 30 cleaners for ambulance decontamination and washing (15 cleaners at Hastings and 15 at the fire station during the surge). Organisation of decontamination crews for house decontamination with sprayers after the removal of a patient from his house. Provision and payment of 16 to 30 motorcycles drivers (‘okadas’) trained to spray and 70 okada drivers in charge of carrying the swabbers. ;
