DEC Afghanistan Appeal - Allocation 1,2 & 3

The programme will provide essential lifesaving community-based Health and Nutrition services to children under five, pregnant and lactating women, women of reproductive age, and caregiver of children through integrated health and nutrition mobile and outreach team to under-served areas in Ghor, Helmand, Badakhshan and Daykundi provinces. Although AAH is providing SAM and MAM treatment, and primary health care service in the target geographical area through integrated Mobile health and nutrition teams, there is a big demand to put in place community-based intervention that improves early detection of malnourished cases, active case finding, and referral, community health-seeking behaviour, and awareness. Therefore, this project is mainly aimed at improving the nutrition and health service community-based activities which comprise; early detection and referral of malnourished cases through community volunteers and Family MUAC approach, community mobilization, detection and referral of beneficiaries with health service need, establishing IYCF mother-to-mother support group and male forum groups. In addition, during the HHs visits Community Volunteers will ensure Pregnant, and lactating mother are following the antenatal and postnatal services, follow up on immunization status of children, and referring children for the service as needed. The programme will also provide psychosocial and mental health support services through a dedicated toll-free hot line available 7 days a week and operated by trained mental health professionals.
