Cross-sectoral emergency response and resilience-building for IDPs and host communities in Paletwa Township, Chin State

This project is designed to respond to the crisis in Paletwa Township, Chin State, on the border with Arakan, which results of the on-going and continuously worsening, conflict between the Myanmar Army (Tatmadaw) and the Arakanese Army. The situation is further aggravated by a widespread lack of services and infrastructures in the region, the high vulnerability of its population and increasing ethnic tensions which are undermining local social cohesion. Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH), in partnership with the Raiki Community Development Foundation, a civil society organization in Paletwa, provides multi-sectoral assistance to IDPs and host communities affected by clashes between the Myanmar and Arakan armies. This action responds to the most urgent needs of displaced persons while trying to ease the pressure on host communities and contribute to strengthening their resilience in the face of the protracted conflict affecting the region. This project provides humanitarian assistance to 4,607 IDPs and host communities in Paletwa Canton, while strengthening local resilience. It follows a first project, started in January 2019 and supported by the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund (OCHA), and complements it both in terms of activities, including the inclusion of a water access component. As a result, IDPs and host communities across Paletwa Township are better able to respond to the emergency situation they are facing, both in the short and long term. This project includes a significant capacity-building component to strengthen local partners’ technical and operational skills. IDPs and host communities in target villages and local CSOs will benefit from the project.
