The focus of Caritas Denmark’s proposed efforts 2018-2021 in the protracted refugee situation for Sudanese refugees in Chad is improved livelihoods, local integration and capacity building of the partner with a budget of DKK 20 million over four years. The interventions are centred on the overall objective to address vulnerabilities and strengthen the self-reliance of the refugees in eastern Chad enhancing peaceful co-existence with the host population. This is done through a humanitarian-development nexus approach in the department of Dar Tama. The intervention focus on refugees from the two big refugee camps Kounongou and Milé and host populations from surrounding villages. During the coming four years, the main focus of the support to Chad will be food security, nutrition, water and sanitation, income generation and environmental protection, incl. renewable energy. As the areas of operation are situated in semi-arid lands in eastern Chad, special attention will be given to promotion of drought resistant crops and agricultural techniques, which are adapted to the conditions of the area, including climate change adaption.
