International Humanitarian Law is a living area of law given the increase in both the number and complexity of armed conflicts. The proximity of conflicts, Belgium's involvement in armed conflicts and the fact that International Humanitarian Law also has obligations to be met in peacetime indicate the importance of International Humanitarian Law. As auxiliary of the government, Belgian Red Cross-Flanders supports the Belgian government in the dissemination and promotion of the compliance with International Humanitarian Law. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders has the necessary expertise and can count on the support of an international network for expertise and up-to-date information. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders chooses to work in two do-mains: (1) the provision of information and (2) influencing policy. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders specifically targets professionals who come into contact with International Humanitarian Law in the course of their work and policy makers who have a have a direct impact on compliance with and dissemination of International Humanitarian Law.
