WASH Response: Conflict Crisis in Tigray (HSU-0052)

This initiative supports the response in Tigray as a result of theTigray Crisis, an ongoing armed conflict that began around midnight of 3–4 November 2020 in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. The conflict severely affected every sphere of people's lives. As a consequence of the fighting and violence, over fifty thousand refugees fled the country and nearly 1.7 million people have been displaced and are in desperate need of assistance. Critical infrastructure has also been destroyed. Within Tigray there are reportedly over 1.7 million people who are internally displaced peoples (IDPs), and 5.2 million people require humanitarian assistance. Over 561,000 people at new IDPs sites, returnee villages and urban centres across the region need support with water, health and sanitation (WASH) asexisting WASH services have been damaged or are not functioning due to a lack of resources and the collapse of local administration.
