Enabling access to a robust and well-tolerated new-generation first-line antiretroviral treatment in low-income countries

he NAMSAL trial, which is sponsored and co-funded by the French National Agency of Research on AIDS & Hepatitis (ANRS) and would be implemented by the Institut Bouisson Bertrand (IBB) and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), aims to generate robust evidence on the clinical and economic benefits of a dolutegravir (DTG)-based regimen in an African setting, representative of real-world conditions within resources-constrained settings. The study protocol has been reviewed and approved by the appropriate authorities. UNITAID is requested to co-fund this trial by supporting the purchase of the study drugs for the duration of the 48-week trial, and after completion of the trial for a duration of up to three years for post-trial access if the new regimen is not yet accessible by then to the study participants via the National Program.
