Participation in global trade and local, global and regional value chains has provided many opportunities for countries to achieve progress towards the SDGs. Over the last three decades, it has grown economies, raised productivity, created jobs and increased incomes. One billion people have escaped poverty, mostly through improved access to markets. However, global trade and value chains have emerged alongside increased concentration of power and wealth in the hands of a few hundred companies and their financiers, at the expense of hundreds of millions of people. Trade rules have been developed to serve narrow commercial interests, resulting in rich countries and powerful corporations capturing a disproportionate share of the benefits. Therefore, the FAIR for ALL consortium – comprising Oxfam Novib, Huairou Commission, SOMO and Third World Network-Africa (TWN-Africa) – will support people in their collaboration with, and rightful demands towards companies, governments and multilateral organizations for economic, social and environmental justice, promoting global trade and value-chains that are FAIR for ALL.
