The programme is designed to foster structural changes in gender norms (and the preconceptions that sustain them), social practices and institutions that currently represent barriers to the effective participation (and recovery / trauma relief) of women. Once those changes have been made, they will support a more active role for women in the construction of peace and the resolution of conflicts, thereby growing democracy and supporting the necessary conditions for a stable and lasting peace.
