On 15th March Cyclone IDAI made landfall north of Beira City (Sofala Province), devastating the city and surrounding areas, and then continued across Mozambique through Manica Province. Currently, the total estimated affected population stands at approximately 600,000 people (260,000 children). During emergencies, the systems of ensuring child protection tend to get disrupted leading to high likelihood of child protection violations and incidents. There have also been first reports on separated children and a conservative estimation of 40% collapsed schools in Sofala and Manica. Save the Children (SC) as part of COSACA will be implementing a Child Protection (CP) and Education in Emergencies (EiE) intervention in Sofala and Manica provinces.
