For a country to ensure the necessary professional expertise on environmental assessment (EA), it needs to make available education for professional development on ESIA and SEA. This includes EA related education at the tertiary level, teaching in academic or knowledge institutions, and professional training. The NCEA can be involved in several ways: • In the development of curricula at teaching institutions. This can also be done at the initiative of the national EA association; • Provide technical inputs to education and training programmes that are part of these curricula; • Provide technical inputs to training programmes and sessions that are organised for EA professionals; • Provide training of trainers (ToT) to ensure sufficient training capacity for the above mentioned programmes. The NCEA can facilitate complete ToT trajectories, or can provide technical input where needed.
