Mt. Malindang Watershed, N-Zamboanga peninsula (Mindanao) - Mt. Malindang, a National Park and key watershed supports the largely agriculture-based economy of Misamis Occidental, with its coconut, rice and corn production making up 80% of its economy. SRJS concentrates on two sub-watersheds, Dioyo River Basin to the North, and Salug Valley to the south. There are contentious issues on gold mining activities, marine ecosystem degradation by mining activities, small-scale agro-industrial expansion, settlements in climate-hazard zones, slash & burn farming. The upstream area, a mineral-rich ancestral domain, is covered by dozens of large-scale mining applications as well as the on-going operation of small-scale mining by local folks and outsiders.
