IATI Identifier:
The Cordillera region is known as the watershed cradle of Northern Luzon, with its high-biodiversity forests sustaining 6 of Northern Luzon’s major river systems. The region is provisioning environmental services not only to Cordillera communities, but also to the surrounding lowland provinces. Local economy is largely agricultural based (rice, vegetables) although small-scale gold mining is also a common source of local income. At the same time, the region remains a resource base for extractive industries such as mining and energy projects, which threaten the ecosystems and undermine the provision of valued ecosystem services.
