In Ethiopia KIT is responsible for conducting research on the root causes of child marriage, female genital mutilation & teenage pregnancies, testing the assumptions of the theory of change, and for measuring effectiveness of strategic interventions on child marriages, female genital mutilation & teenage pregnancies. This means that KIT is responsible for the base and end line studies, the midline and the operational research. KIT closely collaborates with local researchers and capacitates local research teams in mixed methods and knowledge management. The research has the aim to test the underlying assumptions of the programme’s theory of change, to measure the effectiveness of the interventions introduced by the programme and to look into the interrelations between child marriage, female genital mutilation and teenage pregnancy and the interventions that address these in Ethiopia. The research will contribute to the optimization of the Yes I Do intervention strategies and provide context specific knowledge for dialogue purposes, in order to move towards a situation in which adolescent girls can decide if, when and whom to marry and if, when and with whom to have children, and are protected from female genital mutilation/cutting. Furthermore KIT will lead on the validation and dissemination of research outcomes, and analysing country specific Monitoring & Evaluation data for lessons learned and measuring outcomes and impact of the Yes I do Alliance in Ethiopia.
