Improving Oversight of Mozambique´s Governance

The added-value of the program has been the introduction of the rights-based approach, and particularly the guidelines to monitor human rights in the EI. This contributed to increased awareness on the need to include a rights-based approach not only in the EI, but in the work of the Parliament. The program contributed to debunk the perception that human rights violations occurred only in the relations between citizens and the state/public entities and showed that companies can also pose hazards to human rights. Awareness about environment rights improved, as well as the Parliament’s interventions in this area. With the support of the program, representatives were able to visit the sites and interact with companies and communities that resulted in the temporary closure in order to sort out the environment problems denounced by the population.
