MALAWI WATER STEWARDSHIP ICT

Water Witness International (WWI) will introduce Information and Communications Technology (ICT) into our social accountability and water stewardship programmes in Africa. The positive power of ICT will be used to strengthen community empowerment, accountability, advocacy, and citizen and partner reporting - ultimately leading to better management of water resources, greater climate resilience and water security for the poorest people in Africa. We have scoped the most suitable tools, piloted them in the field and – convinced of the value for our efficient delivery and impact – we have planned and costed our needs. This proposal details the kit, training and support needed to introduce tablets and smartphones, and Akvo’s suite of applications into our work to enable: - Real time reporting of water problems, impacts and responses by our community Water Witnesses and support teams; - Tracking of case studies and programme delivery through publicly accessible and easily navigable webpages; - Uploading of geo-referenced materials, videos, photographs, scans and films to better communicate and tell the important story of our work; - Field recording by communities and support staff of important water quality parameters using smartphone based monitoring equipment; - Data visualisation and impactful advocacy; - Tablet based surveys and questionnaire analysis software which, based on our pilots, can cut time and resources needed for large scale surveys by 60%.
