The project aims to increase the reach of the Visually Impaired (VI) both in terms of access to services as well as by widening the awareness and acceptability within the larger society. It also envisages that people actively seek eye care service and enjoy a change in quality of life through community development programmes. It is implemented in 3 sub districts of Vishakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh namely Payakraopeta, S Rayavaram and Nakkapalli. The project works with the objectives of establishing a network of Disabled Peoples Organizations (DPOs)/ Blind Peoples Organizations (BPO) in the project area for facilitating appropriate quality services to PWDs and to ensure that the government services, schemes and facilities are accessed by the community and the disabled persons according to the government acts on rights based approach. Besides it aims to establish cadre of advocacy agents at each administrative level of the district in order to facilitate service delivery to the Visually Impaired persons. It also works on creating awareness on eye health and bring about change in the knowledge, attitude and behaviour among the community in the project area. The project also trains VIs in Orientation and Mobility (O&M), Daily Living Skills (DLS) and in income generation activities. The project aims to enable the VIs to lead independent lives and become active members of the society.
