Kebbi Emergency Trachoma

The project purpose is to fast track the elimination of blinding trachoma in the state, The objectives are: • To expand antibiotic distribution for the treatment of trachoma. • To promote personal and environmental hygiene practices in all trachoma endemic communities in the state • To intensify advocacy towards increased access to water and sanitation in all endemic communities towards improved personal and environmental hygiene. • To provide evidence for control activities by mapping the remaining 14 LGAs of the state in phased manner • To build the capacity of health workers at state and local government and community volunteers The key activities include population based survey for trachoma, training of lid surgeons, provision of consumables, lid surgery community mobilisation, training of health workers and community volunteers, mass drug administration, monitoring and evaluation. The project aims at contributing to poverty reduction through blindness prevention.
