This project seeks to develop and trial a tool for assessing the development of visually impaired children in Malawi and to provide associated advice, training and interventions for parents and community workers. The project will work with community workers on developing learning materials and interventions, and chart their progress over six months. Trialling the tools and materials will help to change the way educational, health and community staff work with families of disabled children by providing them with some practical suggestions about how parents/carers can help their children’s development. The advice that professional workers and teachers will give the children provides them with a greater chance of attending their local school and becoming active participants in their community.
