The project aims to strengthen health system in the state of Andhra Pradesh and ensure that quality eye care is received by the community at large. The purpose of the project is to train ophthalmic human resource working under public health system in the state of Andhra Pradesh for providing quality eye care services to the people. The specific objectives of the project are, 1. To ensure capacity building of 23 ophthalmologists in screening for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and Glaucoma, 6 Ophthalmologists in management of DR and ROP and 3 in Glaucoma management by the end of 2013 2. To build capacity of 90 paediatricians and 260 gynaecologists for prevention of ROP among premature babies by the end of 2013 3. Ensure capacity building of 9 Paramedical Ophthalmic Officers (PMOOs) in equipment maintenance and , 69 identification and referral of DR and glaucoma patients, 23 PMOOs in management of low vision patients by end of 2013 4. To ensure enhanced knowledge and capacities of community health workers (CHWs) in primary eye care by end of 2013 5. To ensure enhanced knowledge and capacities of District Programme Managers (DPMs) in Vision 2020 District level planning
