Kajuru Social Inclusion

The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of life of blind and visually impaired people by empowering the blind people’s organization and its members to demand for their rights and access the same opportunities as their sighted peers. The project objectives include: • To strengthen the capacity of Blind People’s Organisation to advocate for their rights. • To empower blind and severely visually impaired persons to actively participate in the community and contribute to their family and community. • To sensitize mainstream service providers on the need for inclusive service delivery. • To facilitate access to services that addresses other disabilities by establishing linkages with other service providers. • To put in place functional systems for addressing cross cutting issues such as gender, HIV/AIDS and poverty. The major activities of the programme include capacity building of the leadership of the blind, advocacy, sensitisation of community members and service providers on the rights of persons with disability to inclusion. Psychosocial skills and vocational skills training for the severely visual impaired, monitoring and evaluation. The aim of the project is to promote community development through the social inclusion of persons with severe visual impairment.
