Guinea Eye Care (Labe)

Objective: To improve the eye health condition by reducing the prevalence of blindness from 1.5% to 0.8% in Labe, Mamou and Faranah regions from 2012 to 2014. Key activities: • Equip the Labe ROC with new equipment and provide consumables; • Organize training/retraining of 1763 community Distributors in 8 Districts for screening and referral of cataract, TT and CDTI; • Organize a training session for 300 students from health school for screening and referral cataract cases and TT; • Organize a session training/retraining of 12 doctors and 35 community health officers in primary eye care and CDTI; • Organize a training session for 5 Teachers per District to use acuity scale in the School; • Carry outreaches per year; • Organize Quarterly monitoring of project with Partners; • Conduct mi-term and final evaluation. The project is increasing of cataract surgical rate, trachoma and childhood blindness control and the development of comprehensive eye services. The project approach is to strengthen the health system. This will create a synergy in the implementation of the six building blocks (Governance and Leadership, Information, Financing, Health workforce Capacity building, Medical products and technology, Services delivery) and attributes and innovation in a development partnership with stakeholders beyond pro health. The project will improve a human resources in Ophthalmology, has made available the equipment and consumables through the DESSO, who is already involved in this direction. The project will also focus on the role of a social inclusion of all citizens to ensure good care. Emphasis will be put on the Children at school age in the early detection of low vision in school.
