START - Venezuela Delta Emergency Relief

The project will provide support in several inter-related aspects that have an overall positive impact for the affected population: WASH items will help prevent the spread of water-related diseases as well as skin diseases due to lack of proper hygiene and water sources contamination; primary health services (medical consultation plus donation/delivery of medications) will help to treat acute diseases related to poor hygiene (parasites, skin infections, etc) and aid in the control of chronic non-communicable diseases, both of which can lead to complications that can cause disability and dependence; food items provision helps reduce the risk of malnutrition, infectous diseases, muscle loss and disability, anemia and other health conditions that can have serious consequences for the health of the affected population; disaster risk reduction items will improve the communities capacity to respond to future expected floodings, helping them protect their livelihoods and homes, and reducing the need for temporary displacement; and hygiene and hydration education will also increase communities capacity to prevent inadequate sanitation-related diseases and reduce the risk of dehydration of their most vulnerable members (children, older people and people with disabilites). All these areas of intervention will improve the quality of life and living standards of a population with critical needs for mutliple forms of assistance.
