GOAC - Water, sanitation and hygiene for Yemeni children displaced by war

The project aims to provide basic water and sanitation services to most vulnerable children of 5 schools in At-Taiziyah sub-district, Taiz governorate, particularly targeting areas where the high level of displacement has resulted in high numbers of malnourished children and cases of cholera. Target beneficiaries include 100 teachers and 2,000 children will benefit from the new water points and WASH facilities. 35 Community and Water Management volunteers (18 men, 17 women) being trained under this project and an additional 4,704 adults and 3,096 children will benefit from the hygiene promotion sessions. Activities include: (i constructing and installing 5 water points in the schools; ii) rehabilitating 5 WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities (latrines & hand-washing points) in those locations; iii) forming and training 5 Water Management Committees of 5 members each to oversee operation, management and maintenance of the water points and WASH facilities in the schools; iv) 10 community volunteers will also be trained to deliver awareness raising sessions for both children and their parents to ensure that they adopt new practice and use the facilities adequately; v) distributing 1,000 hygiene kits; vi) awareness raising sessions and Water Management committees will ensure that the facilities continue to be used and maintained to serve the community, long after we’ve left.
