The TeamUp project aims to increase the resilience and psychosocial wellbeing of refugee children and vulnerable children in host communities through structured movement-based and sports activities. It will be implemented in Arua and Yumbe districts in northern Uganda, and will reach a total of 4,000 children during two years of implementation. The project will work with boys and girls (6-18 years old) from the South Sudanese refugee community, alongside vulnerable children from host communities, in Yumbe and Arua districts in the West Nile region of northern Uganda. Uganda is currently the third largest refugee-hosting country in the world with 1,091,024 refugees, of whom 770,667 are from South Sudan. The vast majority of South Sudanese refugees are hosted in refugee settlements in northern Uganda, one of the poorest areas of the country. Although Uganda has one of the most progressive refugee policies in the world, refugees still face challenges related to access to quality basic services and are at daily risk of rights violations.
