Kano Literacy and Numeracy Accelerator (KaLMA)
Kano Literacy and Numeracy Accelerator aims to build foundational Hausa and English literacy and numeracy skills for 51,711 primary children in all schools in Wudil and Dawakin Tofa Local Governments using the Teaching at the Right Level approach, equipping them with foundational literacy and numeracy skills before they leave primary school.
Kano Literacy and Numeracy Accelerator targets children in primary 4 to primary 6, who are assessed one-on-one by their teachers using a simple oral reading and maths assessment at the beginning of the programme. The assessment results are used to group children based on their learning levels rather than by age or grade. For the first two hours of the school day, the children's teachers (having been trained in the Teaching at the Right Level approach by the project) will focus on developing children’s foundational skills in these learning level groups using the methodology they learnt.

The activity is taking place in one major city and two local government districts in Nigeria: Kano City where engagement for ownership and sustainability as well as government commitment is happening through SUBEB Wudil Local Government (District) where model one of the pilot programme is implemented for Hausa and Mathematics and having the component of pre-service within the schools as well as community level engagement. Dawakin Tofa Local Government (District) where model two of the pilot programme piloted on Hausa and English literacy (dual language approach) and the Mathematics in schools. Again community level engagement is also happening at that level.

Agents for Citizen-Driven Transformation (ACT): Implementation Phases
The Agents for Citizen-driven Transformation (ACT) programme aims to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in Nigeria through enhancing the credibility of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and enhancing their role as independent development actors and drivers of change.
The overall Objective of the programme is to contribute to more inclusive, effective, accountable and gender-responsive development in Nigeria.
The Specific Objective of the programme is to enhance the credibility and role of CSOs as drivers of change for sustainable development in Nigeria.
Result One: Strengthened selected CSOs, Networks and Coalitions working in the three EU focal sectors.
Result Two: Appropriate and inclusive civil society regulatory framework in place.
The target beneficiaries of the programme are selected CSOs at the state and national levels. Additionally, other stakeholders such as the regulatory agencies and selected CSO Capacity Development Providers (CDPs) will also receive capacity strengthening support from the programme. The programme will also benefit community members indirectly through provision of small scale capacity development grants for CSO partners that will implement actvities at the community level with strategic connections to the issues of concern to vulnerable groups including PWDs, women, young people amongst others. The programme beneficiaries will spread across ten selected states of Nigeria: Lagos, Kano, Sokoto, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adamawa, Rivers, Edo, Enugu, Borno and Plateau/Kwara.
Gender and Social Inclusion (G&SI) is a cross-cutting focus of the programme. ACT will provide both technical and financial support to its partners to become fully aware and mainstream G&SI in their internal process and programme activity implementation. ACT is supporting national/local CSOs that are working in the area of advocacy for PWD and women issues.
ACT is contibuting to humanitarian activities through its focused support to its CSO partners to become socially responsible and committed to increasing awareness and compliance to safety procols for COVID-19 at the community level in selected states - Lagos, Kano, Sokoto and FCT.
