Action Against Hunger
Senegal Drought Response Cost Replica Insurance Policy
This project has been developed in response to evidence anticipating food insecurity in farming communities in Northern Senegal, following a lack of rainfall during the 2019 rainy season. This is expected to severely impact animal grazing and harvests. Cash-based interventions will support the most vulnerable households to meet basic food needs, without resorting to unsustainable survival strategies that might negatively impact their long-term subsistence (e.g. selling livestock and agricultural tools, migration). At the same time, the distribution of enriched flour, and awareness raising activities will improve nutrition across the region, and help to prevent malnutrition in children under 5, and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers (often the first victims of food insecurity in impacted families).
Activities/Outputs: 53,682 people benefit from targeted, unconditional cash transfers of 15 000 FCFA / 25$ More than 100 tonnes of enriched flour is distributed to 9126 children under 5, and 2147 pregnant/breastfeeding women C.8000 people benefit from 100+ awareness raising sessions on nutrition and hygiene
The project will take place in at least two regions (Matam and Podor), reaching 53,682 people.

Teenage Nutrition for Change (TN4C)
TN4C aims to reduce under-nutrition in one of the most nutrition insecure regions of Senegal. By empowering teenagers to improve their food practices, knowledge on reproductive health and access to adapted family planning services, TN4C can break the vicious cycle of under-nutrition: under-nourished teenage mothers giving birth to low weight children. Targeting schools, the community and health services, TN4C will address one of the identified key root causes of under-nutrition.
